STOP IT ..YOU HAVE THE POWER ...ITS MAKES ME SICK

There is nothing more disturbing to me than child abuse stories, except actual child abuse. I just don’t understand people who can do this to their children, or any child for that matter. Children should be protected, not harmed. In my field of work I encounter at least 34 serious abuse cases per month right here in Trinidad and Tobago that's over 360 per yr. I know there are alot more for a fact because i see child abuse in this country on a daily basis. Now i would love to share some of the horrific cases i have encountered while working at childline but its against our confidentially policy that we have to protect both our callers and victims. People of Trinidad and Tobago it is not pretty makes you want to vomit or choke the perpetrators who is committing these acts against our children.

There are two main problems. One is that people don’t want to involve themselves. They see something that bothers or disturbs them but instead of investigating it or reporting it they come up with some logical explanation to explain things away. I would rather be the person who cried wolf than find out I should have reported it and did not. Two, child abuse is usually hidden. Children are trained not to tell or admit it is happening. Child abuse stories need to be heard, and be used to wake people up. Make them understand that it is really happening. Child abuse is one of those things people would rather not know about. Maybe one store being shared will help others identify a child who needs help, and motivate them to offer that helping hand. As adults it is our job to protect children, even when they are not ours.

Please I know alot of you see it and wont say cause you think its not your business. Last week i was heading home from work and what i saw hurted me. It was a father standing with his 7yr old daughter ...mind you guys i was in my car driving by, all i heard was GET IN THE F.......KING CAR GIRL and he slapped her so hard i couldn't believe what my eyes was seeing IN PUBLIC. Now i was helpless because i didn't know the man, where he lived , his name or daughter's name ...BUT guess what someone knows who lives close and wont come out and take a stand for what is right. These are our children our future, they have rights as well just as an adult and any other person. ...THERE is Incest,Physical, sexual, emotional, Neglect and Verbal abuse all over Trinidad and Tobago but we really need help from the public to assist.

  1. joel to you keep up the great work, all your blogs i read and they all are very interesting, i pray God continue to be your guide and that people take what you say seriously, thank you for sharing, because most people are afraid of the truth, i know you tell them and instead they help, they back off or afraid to even have an input, i pray for our youths the next generation and i take a stand for whats right, there should be accountability, we as adults and parents and elders need to step up, what is the sense in knowing, seeing and not doing anything i think you will just as bad as the abuser, have a bless day joel and keep doing your thing.

  2. J next time take the license plate.. it does a lot here and i'm sure it could do the same in Trini.. That is ridiculous.. I would love to join the fight cause at least I know i'm standing up for those who can't for themselves.

  3. It always hurt my heart to read or hear about abusive acts committed against children. When a parent or an adult vent their anger and frustration on a child by means of abuse that is so SAD. The hurtful thing about this, is more than 50% of these children are more likely to become abusers themselves because of what they have been exposed to.
Joel you put so much effort into our future generation and for that i appreciate. You are doing a fantastic job. Keep it up with God speed...
